EXTRADATA SHIPS FAULT FACTORY - A SOFTWARE FAULT SIMULATOR FOR NETWORKED APPLICATIONS

ExtraData Technologies (a privately held company) today announced immediate availability of Fault Factory 1.0, a negative testing/active debugging tool for socket or HTTP/SOAP communications

The tool can inject faults into any running application with no compile-time instrumentation or system changes

"Today's applications are networked together - and networks are inherently unreliable" - said Julian Roz, CTO of ExtraData. According to Mr. Roz "Under real-life use, your application can experience a variety of error conditions, ranging from socket connection problems to SOAP faults, and you need to be prepared. Many of those conditions are difficult to reproduce, but Fault Factory makes it trivial! The tool supports both automatic randomized testing and interactive debugging"

In interactive mode, developer can plan a fault using Fault Factory, and than trace its effects in their favorite debugger. A variety of popular debuggers are supported

In automatic mode, the tool generates a range of faults randomly, and can be used for testing with minimal effort. Its unique dynamic runtime instrumentation requires no system changes, so it can be used on production servers

Conditions simulated include user-configurable SOAP Faults (any HTTP response can be simulated) or various socket-level communication faults (dropped/refused connections, buffer problems, timeouts, etc.)

The package contains a GUI Console and an Agent. The Agent dynamically attaches to a running application - no special configuration or system changes required. The Console allows configuring agent actions globally or on a per-call basis

Fault Factory is implementation-neutral and can inject faults into any Windows application, regardless of the implementation language: Java, Perl, Python, C/C++, any .NET (e.g. C#, VB)

Supported Platforms

Fault Factory 1.0 supports Windows 2000, XP or 2003 (32bit)

Pricing and Availability
